Okay, for those of you who don't already know what exactly it is, a Quince Años (translated: 15 years and pronounced, Keen-say An-yohs) is very basically a celebration of a girl's entrance into womanhood. It's kind of like a Debutant Ball though in many ways totally different.
This party has two parts, a ceremony where the Quinceñera (Birthday Girl) makes vows publicly before God and then a reception.
Like all things, different places have different traditions and customs. Just as someone used to Chinese food in the U.S. would be surprised at how different it would taste in China, so a Quince Años will vary depending on your location. There is really no "right" way to throw a Quince Años. Many people will go all out, and some will keep it small. Either way the meaning behind it is still the same. And remember that no matter how you do it, enjoy yourself. It is, after all, a birthday party!
